Did you develop some weird fetish for Eastern block manufacturers over the last couple of days?

Wartburgs are quite fun when it comes to handling. They're known for their reliability though I hardly think safety was a thing over there. So if the driver got out unharmed: I doubt it. Lovely video nevertheless!

Fact: very few Wartburgs were equipped with a stereo because it was not possible to enjoy over that 2-stroke engine noise. No sound-damping whatsoever!

Ahhh wartburg's, I had a great aunt who had one of these (pretty weird, since she lived in Belgium). Their tagline at the time was "3 x 2 = 6", meaning 3 cylinders 2-stroke was comparable in performance to a 6 cylinders engine.

Note the 3=6 badge

Kinja'd!!!

The logic behind that was that a three cylinder two stroke engine had the same number of explosions inside the engine per rotation of the crankshaft as a four stroke six cylinder engine.

Yeah, I knew, but it's still funny to me how such a theoric and silly thing was their official tagline.

What else do you expect from what is now known as Audi?

It's a fetish I've always had. I guess I'm finally comfortable sharing my kinks.

This one looks like it handles great. I'm putting a Wartburg wagon on my list.

I had a Subaru 360 with a factory installed radio and, yeah, you could never hear a thing with the car running. I think it was a $5 option, so not a big loss to whomever bought it new.

Wasn't it bought by Opel ? I vagly remember something about Opel buying them during the german reunification.

Sort of, and sort of not. Opel bought the Eisenach plant that used to build Wartburgs (and BMWs before that) in 1991, while the original Audi plant in Zwickau is now most famous for making Trabants. Both the Trabant and Wartburg were essentially developments from pre-war DKW designs which in west germany evolved into the first "modern" Audi.
